The Night Watch
Pat H. Fredeman
The night watch is at hand. The sun burns in golden yearning, But frets with fainter hand;
Ships beckon in the dimness;
Gathering in the twilight
Workmen linger o'er their crops;
The birds have ceased their singing;
The earth lies soft and yielding
The night flares soft and subtle
The stars emerge but faintly,
The moon swoops in tardy grace,
The stars have com'enc'd their singing;
