Things the Ocean Said
Rebecca Lu Kiernan
I've been nervous all my life
Behind spiked gray shadows
Of a razory gate.
Now your calm sienna irises
Beneath the bent cobalt willow,
Tentative sodium breeze
Fingering your wheat blonde lion's mane.
A cotton candy pink sunset
Loses its hypnotic power.
Gathering sea shells for a wounded friend.
Revenge comes in time
Whenever the sea shells whisper
Things the ocean said,
Whenever the willow
Cowers down to the rain.
