Humming Softly

Linda Ruzicka

Far below the shimmering depths
of the cobalt blue sea
among the tall ocean grasses
undulating in the unseen currents
a quicksilver movement, flash of fin
eddying swirls of tiny bubbles
trailing leisurely in the wake
of the ocean's in habitant
effortlessly, she swims towards the surface
hair entwining around her waist
a silken curtain that conceals,
caresses more than it displays
head breaking water, waves thundering
approaching a sun warmed rock
stretching out, glistening tail unfurling,
sparkling drops adorn her face
gripping tightly in her hand
the backbone of a triggerfish
running the make shift comb
through the salty dampened hair
humming softly the Siren's Song,
that which makes men go insane
smashing their ships on jagged shores,
she parts her lips...and smiles
