Smoke Dragons
Sarah Wagner
Blowing smoke dragons in the night
Watching time slip quietly away
Listening to the children in their beds
Crying out, unheard, in their sleep.
Into their rooms softly I creep
To scare all their demons away.
Singing sweet lullabies, I put them to sleep
To return to my shadows unseen
To wait and to watch
Until they need me again
Blowing smoke dragons into their dreams.
