She Awakens

Julie Shiel

The colors are drowning,
Fading to twilight shadows
And monochrome memories
Of days half digested.

You stretch from your corner,
Rattle chains in the liquid room
Where you are tethered,
Your first breath mercury
Fracturing into
Preternatural starshine.

You exhale bitter worlds,
Coalescing into moons
And unexplored imprecisions
Of nocturnal desires.
